According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), four-fifths of the developing world’s food is a product of small-sized farms. Small, family-run farms are also home to the majority of people living in absolute poverty, and half of the world’s undernourished people. Prolonged conflict, burgeoning populations, climate change and increasingly erratic weather patterns are compounding these problems. Food security is achieved when adequate, safe and nutritious food is available, accessible to, and well utilized by all individuals at all times to support a healthy and productive life. Small scale farmers are fundamental to achieving this goal.
SEEP is dedicated to promoting inclusive market systems that improve agricultural productivity, incomes, and nutrition. We convene relevant stakeholders, help form common standards of practice, and expand the availability of credible evidence.
