FinMark Trust Galvanizes Responsible Investment & Inclusive Business in Southern Africa
Congratulations to SEEP Member FinMark Trust on becoming the implementing agency for Southern African Development Community (SADC) on its Investment, Business and Financial Inclusion (SIBE) program. Over the next four years, FinMark Trust will support regional integration and cooperation among the 16 member states through this program. The program has three pillars: enabling policy and investment frameworks, enhanced financial markets integration, and deepening financial inclusion – with the overarching objective being to create an environment that facilitates economic growth.
There are many activities to support the program’s objectives. Some of these include:
Reinvigorating the Finance and Investment Protocol (FIP) of the SADC to ensure the latest developments in the region pertaining to economics, finance, and taxation matters are addressed;
Supporting national governments in SADC with the implementation of investment frameworks, financial inclusion strategies, and other key components of their economies in line with a regional approach;
Development of appropriate financial services for key populations to facilitate cross border trade for small-and medium-sized businesses; and
Supporting AML and KYC alignment that is more inclusive for all, while maintaining a secure environment.
This program is launching during a time of worldwide recessions and unprecedented economic struggles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SIBE program is critical to ensure SADC member states and residents are supported in their economic recoveries.
