Join us for the first virtual Annual Meeting of the WEE Working Group! We will hear from Keynote Speaker Linda Scott, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Oxford, discuss addressing unintended negative consequences of WEE programming, host breakout group discussions with our dedicated Steering Committee, and brainstorm technical priorities for 2021.
Linda Scott is the author of The Double X Economy: The Epic Potential of Women’s Empowerment, as well as Emeritus DP World Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, University of Oxford. She is founder of the Global Business Coalition for Women’s Economic Empowerment—a group comprised of Coca-Cola, ExxonMobil, Goldman Sachs, Marks & Spencer, Mastercard, Mondelēz, Procter & Gamble, pwc, Qualcomm, UPS, and Walmart—and was Senior Consulting Fellow at Chatham House, the Royal Institute for International Affairs.
For fifteen years, Professor Scott has worked with multinational corporations, international agencies, national governments, and global NGOs to design, implement, and test programs to better include women in the world economy. Scott has recently completed a large randomized trial on financial inclusion under a Grand Challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is currently working with the World Bank to build new practices for assessing women-owned businesses on a national level. She is also a visiting professor at Brown University where she teaches “Gender, Economics, and Entrepreneurship.”
Professor Scott’s book has been listed for the Guardian’s Best Science Books of 2020, the Royal Society’s Best Science Book of 2020, the Financial Times/McKinsey & Company Best Business Books of 2020, the New Statesman’s Books to Read in 2020, and by the Chicago Council of Global Affairs’ “Nine Books to Read to Prepare for the World After COVID-19.”
The Double X Economy is currently being translated into ten languages for release in 39 countries.
