Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are the engines of our economies. Research shows that up to 80% of all jobs in emerging economies are created by MSMEs. Promoting MSME development through developing value chains, linkages and service markets has therefore become a prominent feature of national development planning.
This training programme helps enterprise development practitioners to design and implement market driven MSME development initiatives using a participatory approach. The 2018 edition features for the first time a 10 day training programme that includes a basic and advanced module.
The basic module will analyse the principles and rationality behind value chain development (VCD), provide a detailed analysis of the different phases of VCD, share different techniques for market systems facilitation, and discuss the benefits of market systems facilitation. The advanced module will introduce value chain finance, explain how to design VCD pilot interventions and present frameworks for constructing results chains and monitoring results.
The training content will be based on the experiences of the ILO and its partners in promoting value chain development projects and initiatives in emerging economies.
