The productivity and potential of pastoral systems

An analysis of the Borana pastoral system in southern Ethiopia has shown that this view is wrong. The Borana system is very productive; compared with Australian commercial ranches ina similar climatic environment, the Borana produce nearly four times as much protein and six times as much food energy from each hectare. Their major concern is not the number of cows owned but the number of people supported by the rangeland
