Jun 20, 2016 | by ACEDRR
This multi-country research study examines the ways in which microfinance and micro insurance tools provide social security to the disaster prone areas of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. To conduct the study, researchers mapped the vulnerabilities of the disaster prone communities and investigated how they cope with such vulnerabilities. The review involved comparing indigenous and other social security mechanisms to the reach and relevance of micro insurance products available for local people. The study includes an analysis of the opportunities for micro insurance to integrate with microfinance services and the role of NGOs, the insurance sector, government, and donors in developing innovative micro insurance partnerships.
