The Working Group for Private Sector Development in Conflict-Affected Environments (PSD in CAE) of the Donor Committee for Enterprise Development (DCED) expressed its interest in jointly developing and conducting a common training course. Based on a demand driven modular structure, the training shall contribute to an improved understanding of the complexity and diversity of Private Sector Development interventions in conflict-affected environments and increase their effectiveness. The training course is envisaged to build on currently existing training courses developed by various donor and civil society agencies. As a first step, DCED therefore commissioned this mapping exercise to take stock of existing training courses and materials and identify their commonalities and differences. Together with the DCED secretariat, the authors contacted all DCED members to be interviewed about their interests and needs in relation to such trainings and to share experiences with existing training courses (see annex 1 for list of interviewees). In addition, we collected and examined relevant training materials from DCED members and other training providers. Chapter 2 presents the results of the training mapping, which includes both specific training courses on Private Sector Development or economic development in conflict-affected areas as well as some generic training courses on conflict prevention and peace building. Chapter 3 provides an overview of the needs and interests of DCED members in relation to a joint DCED training course on PSD in CAE (Training Needs Assessment). Both the Training Needs Assessment and the training mapping inform the following proposal on the objectives, structure and methodology of a joint DCED training course. Brief summaries of the training materials reviewed in this mapping can be found in annex 2.
