In general, performance measurement is integral to the successful operation of any organization. It is axiomatic that one cannot manage what one does not measure. In microfinance, the process of measuring and managing organizational progress toward social objectives is known collectively as social performance management (SPM). This Conceptual Note discusses important concepts related to SPM of microfinance institutions (MFIs).
