An Emergency Market Mapping & Analysis (EMMA) Survey on Private and Public Water Supply Markets in Gaza
May 10, 2013 | by Oxfam
The Emergency Market Mapping and Analysis (EMMA) tool highlights how people affected by disasters or conflicts access the goods and services they need to maintain dignity, good health and livelihoods. While water is increasingly recognized as an essential human right, people’s access to safe water is primarily shaped by market forces (e.g., the interaction of supply and demand in a market based economy). In Gaza, the market supply and consumer demand for water is heavily influenced by issues that are particular to the hydrology, political and humanitarian contexts of the region.
