A ladder up: The role of the construction sector in creating jobs and rebuilding emerging market economies
Oct 8, 2021 | by Arthur Acolin, Richard Green and Marja Hoek-Smit (Habitat for Humanity)
Authored by the same team that prepared the Cornerstone of Recovery report - i.e., our coalition’s very own Arthur Acolin, Richard Green, and Marja Hoek-Smit - A ladder up evidences the size of the construction sector and socioeconomic characteristics of construction workers in nine emerging market countries. It also estimates the output and employment multipliers associated with the construction sector; (focusing as possible on the building construction subsector, particularly residential buildings). The nine countries of study in the report include: Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa and Uganda. The report is currently in English, and will be made available in Spanish in the coming weeks.
