WEEWG
(The Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group)
Why WEE
Women’s economic empowerment refers to a process by which women expand their ability to succeed and advance economically, and where they have the power to make and act on strategic life decisions in a context where this power was previously denied to them.
Over the last few years, there has been increasing evidence about the importance of gender equality to inclusive economic development. Donors and practitioners are focusing more closely on women’s economic empowerment while integrating a gender lens into market systems development initiatives. The Women’s Economic Empowerment Working Group (WEEWG) has been created to bring together development practitioners committed to sharing good practices, tools and resources to bridge knowledge gaps and push the frontier of learning and practice in this field.
